Continuing after Indian productions like Love Per Square Foot and Lust Stories, Netflix has finally released the first season of much-awaited debut Indian show, Sacred Games. The show released in 190 countries, dubbed in 4 languages and subtitled in 24.
Starring Bollywood’s some of the most admired actors like Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte, Sacred Games also boasts of highly talented writers and directors. The show has been directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap who tried a new style of direction. Show’s writing credits list comedian, screenwriter and lyricist Varun Grover who is known for critically acclaimed film, Masaan, among other names.
Sacred Games is based on the book of the same name written by Vikram Chandra. The story revolves around an honest cop (Played by Saif Ali Khan) and a rising underworld player (Played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui) who believes in no rules. This run and chase game also has a strong female character, a RAW agent, played by Radhika Apte. It is again an empowering move by Netflix, in a country where women are generally not portrayed in a strong light. The book is well over 1000 pages and the first season of Sacred Games only covers a fraction of it, so it’s likely that we are going to see multiple seasons of this show.
