Today marks 47th year of one of India’s best filmmaker, Anurag Kashyap. Having more than 15 brilliantly directed films to his name, Anurag Kashyap is on his way to becoming a legend of Indian Cinema. But to limit his talents to just directorship would be a shame. He is an exceptional writer, actor, editor and has also produced a lot of films that are defining the modern Hindi Cinema. Here is a list of five lesser-known Hindi movies that he has co-produced and presented that are phenomenal.
Teen Aur Aadha (Netflix)
Teen Aur Aadha is a riveting take on human relationships and emotions through three different stories. With an astounding cast consisting of Jim Sarabh, Anjum Rajabali, Zoya Hussain, Suhasini Mulay, Arya Dave and M. K. Raina, the movie flows naturally. The main character of the movie though – a house. A movie that will take you on a profound journey.
Game Over (Netflix)
A terrifying psychological thriller, Game Over is about the life of a game developer suffering from past trauma and how she deals with her life. The movie goes far and beyond the classic jump scares of horror movies. The villain is masked, and the heroine is depressed and terrified. Starring Taapsee Panu in the lead, Game Over is originally in Tamil.
Shorts (YouTube)
‘Shorts’ is a compilation of 5 short films directed by various directors like Shlok Sharma and Siddharth Gupta. Stories ranging from that of a failing relationship on the brink of collapse to a girl on the run from her harassing cousin to a man on the outskirts of a violent city. ‘Shorts’ is a bizarre mix of off-beat stories with great cinematography.
Chittagong (Netflix)
A new take on the Chittagong Uprisings, Anurag Kashyap has once again produced a brilliant film. Covering the uprisings through the eyes of a 14-year old boy, the film stays true to the reality. The lead role of the teacher is played by Manoj Bajpayee and also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Rajkumar Rao, and Vijay Verma.
Tigers (Zee5)
‘Tigers’ has a basic plot, an ordinary man fighting a huge multinational company because of its harmful baby products that kill infants. But the portrayal of the ordinary plot into something extraordinary is done by the director. Emraan Hashmi plays his character extremely well and the movie will leave a mark on you with its striking scenes.
This is just a small set of the various movies Anurag Kashyap has been a part of. We wish him a Happy Birthday!
